Essential tremor into tremulous Parkinson’s disease or they are two separate diseases?
Keywords:
Essential tremor, Parkinson’s disease, co-morbidityAbstract
There is contradictory information in the global literature regarding patients diagnosed with Essential tremor (ET) and their ability to obtain Parkinson’s disease (PD) afterwards. It is difficult to say if there is co-morbidity between the two diseases or they are two separate nosologies. The second question is if the ET has outgrown into PD due to a higher risk for neurodegeneration in patients with ET. It is necessary clinical trials, prolonged observation of patients and performance of additional specialized examinations to be conducted. It is also important specific pathophysiological, genetic and lab tests to be developed and used. The correct recognition of the two diseases leads to an adequate treatment, prevention of the fast progression of the disease and provides a better quality of life for the patients and their relatives.
